Offering Various Security Courses

PortGuard has multiple Marine Facility Training Courses to help your team members receive certification in various elements of port facility security. Our courses cover training such as Marine Facility Security Officer, Basic Security Guard, Supervisor Training and more.

Once you are trained in your new career as a certified MFSO, we will be there for you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our experienced port facility managers are available to help or give advice.

MARINE FACILITY SECURITY OFFICER

$1750 CAD

Portguard’s Marine Facility Security Officer (MFSO) course is a certificated course that allows students to receive the necessary marine security training compliant with Sections 304-306 of Canada’s Marine Transportation Security Regulations.

The course can be offered at:

  • our training centre at Charlottetown Port
  • we can send a team of trainers to your facility
  • we can arrange live online training via Zoom

The course is held over 2 – 1/2 days and culminates in an exam on the final day, which all students are
thoroughly prepared to ensure the necessary standards are met.

PERSONS WITH SECURITY RESPONSIBILITIES

PortGuard’s Persons with Security Responsibilities (PWSR) program covers the necessary training components to fulfill Section 307 of Canada’s Marine Transportation Security Regulations’ requirements, which stipulates security personnel working at a port facility must receive the necessary security training or have the appropriate job experience.

Security Responsibilities Course

Learn about security awareness, threats and patterns

The one-day certificated course covers:

  • Pre-Arrival of Ship operations and procedures
  • Communications with ship and port
  • Security awareness and reporting
  • Emergency and incident response
  • Persons and vehicles attending facility
  • current security threats and patterns
  • the recognition and detection of weapons, explosives and incendiaries and other dangerous substances and devices
  • the recognition of the characteristics and behavioural patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security
  • techniques that might be used to violate security procedures or to circumvent security procedures, equipment or systems
  • crowd management and control techniques
  • emergency preparedness and response and contingency planning
  • the operation, testing, calibration and maintenance of security equipment and systems
  • inspection and monitoring techniques
  • methods of performing physical searches of persons and goods, including personal effects, baggage, ships’ stores and cargo
  • the relevant provisions of the marine facility security plan 
  • the meaning and the requirements of the different MARSEC levels

PERSONS WITHOUT SECURITY RESPONSIBILITIES

PortGuard’s Person’s Without Security Responsibilities (PWOSR) course provides the required training pertaining to Marine Facility Personnel in various positions. Supporting the security of the facility and enhancing the over all operations of a busy commercial port as required by Section 308 of Canada’s Marine Transportation Security Regulations.

Without Security Course

Basic knowledge of security issues & communications

Training includes:

  • basic security issues and communications
  • the meaning and the requirements of the different MARSEC levels, the different procedures required of the person at each level and the emergency procedures and contingency plans
  • the recognition and detection of weapons, explosives and incendiaries and other dangerous substances and devices
  • the recognition of the characteristics and behavioural patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security and
  • techniques that might be used to violate security procedures or to circumvent security procedures, equipment, or systems

Basic Security Guard

PortGuard offers Basic Security Guard (BSG) training, providing the trainee all the skills and knowledge required to perform his or her duties as well as being federally certified under the requirements of the Canadian General Standards Board (CAN/CGSB-133.1-2017).
